Police have arrested three ZZZICOMP monitors who were monitoring the constitution making process in Manicaland.

Two monitorsTapera Mavherevhedze and Godfrey Nyarota and their driver identified as Cornelius Chengu were arrested on Thursday 24 June 2010 while monitoring the constitution making process in Mukunu, Mutare North. They were detained at Mutare Central Police Station.

On Friday 25 June the police detained Enddy Ziyera, a ZZZICOMP coordinator for Manicaland Province, who had visited the two monitors to deliver food to them. No formal charges have been laid against the four "accused" persons who remain in police custody at Mutare Central.

Update - June 25, 2010

Monitors remanded out of custody

ZZZICOMP monitors, Tapiwa Maverevedze, Godfrey Nyarota and their driver Cornelius Chengu appeared before a Mutare Magistrate, Phebeon Seshete, this afternoon and were remanded out of custody to the 9th July 2010 on $20-00 bail each. They are being charged under Section 81 (3) of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA) for practising journalism without accreditation.

Meanwhile, Enndy Ziyera, ZZZICOMP Provincial Coordinator for Manicaland who had been detailed for several ours was only questioned and released without a charge.
