    The Director of the Mutare based diamond watchdog, Centre for Research and Development (CRD), Farai Maguwu who was arrested on Thursday 3 June 2010 in Mutare will appear at Rotten Row Magistrate's Court, Harare today 07, June 2010 at 2pm for initial remand.

    According to defense lawyer, Mr. Tinoziva Bere, the police are currently recording Maguyu's statement at Harare Central Police Station. Maguwu is facing charges of allegedly communicating and publishing falsehoods on Chiadzwa during the visit by Kimberly Process Monitor, Abbey Chikane in contravention of Section 31 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

    We urge colleagues within the civil society and other interested parties to show solidarity with Mr. Maguwu by attending the court hearing.
