City advised to stop relying on donors

Bulawayo - Representatives of the Durban Municipality who visited the Bulawayo City Council last week advised the cities to stop relying on donors. The Head of the Informal Trade of the Durban Local Authority, Ethekwini Municipality, Thulani Nzama told the Mayor, councilors and guests that the councilors should use their limited resources and skills to cater for their needs. This comes after the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) and the Durban Municipalities, made a joint application for donations from the European Union to fund various projects in the two cities.

The Zimbabwe Institute of Management, Spokesperson Freedom Dube has said that the Indigenisation and Empowerment Act is making Zimbabwe an unpopular investment area. He said that instead, government should empower indigenous people by assisting them to establish their own companies. Dube said that taking over businesses does not create wealth for the country.

Upcoming Events

• On the 10th of March, Bulawayo Agenda will be holding a public meeting in Mangwe District in Matabeleland South.
• The Public Meeting that was scheduled for the 11th of March has been shifted to the 13th of March on Saturday at 1400-1730hrs at the Small City Hall to discuss the effects of the sanctions in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
