Bulawayo Agenda
March 02, 2010

The Daily Agenda, published from Monday to Friday provides information on critical governance and developmental issues. It is our hope that the information provided will be useful to our constituency of readership, particularly the leaders at the local level and civil society practitioners, in informing and shaping their choice of developmental objectives and initiatives.

Bulawayo - The Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Association official, Councillor Manning has said that Estate Agents are charging high rentals for their clients. Manning said his association met with representatives from Knight Frank and John Pocock to discuss the high rentals charged by the property developers as the Estate Agents are violating government directives on rental charges.

The Bulawayo City Council will not change its by-laws. This comes after reports that the Council wants to amend its by-laws on stream bank cultivation. Chamber Secretary of the City Council, Sikhangele Zhou, said that council cannot allow stream bank cultivation as it is guided by the Environmental Management Act. She also took a swipe at councilors who promise the electorate that they will allow stream bank cultivation as a way of gaining political mileage.

The civil servants' union has accused some of their members for going to work to do corrupt activities. Union leaders met civil servants at the Stanley Square in Makokoba to evaluate the strike that has been on going from the 5th of last month. Progressive teachers union of Zimbabwe Secretary General, Raymond Majongwe told civil servants that some teachers are going to schools as a way of milking incentives from parents. Civil servants accused each other of sabotage in carrying out the industrial action.
