Hospitals demand payslips as assurance that patients can afford to pay for medical services
Bulawayo Agenda
February 25, 2010

The Daily Agenda, published from Monday to Friday will provide information on critical governance and developmental issues. It is our hope that the information provided will be useful to our constituency of readership, particularly the leaders at the local level and civil society practitioners, in informing and shaping their choice of developmental objectives and initiatives.

Harare - The Minister of Health, Doctor Henri Madzorera says his ministry is not aware that hospitals are demanding pay slips as an assurance that patients can afford to pay for medical services. Dr. Madzorera said that investigations on the matter are underway. Residents have said that requirements are not going to be met as the majority of the public is unemployed and the social welfare that is supposed to be an alternative for the unemployed is no longer functional.

Masvingo - There has been violence looming around the area where teachers, who were staging a sitting in, have been victimized by war veterans and headmasters at Zishumbe Primary School. The violence is said to have spread to other areas such as Buhera with dismissal of teachers and headmasters in Mberengwa and Uzumbamarangafungwe.

Bulawayo - Water Resources and Development Minister, Sipepa Nkomo, has said that SADC ministers will hold their annual conference in Bulawayo, in May. Minister Nkomo said that the ministers will take the opportunity to hold a sideline meeting on the Zambezi Water Course Commission as this will assist to on the negotiations that he is making with the Zambezi riparian states on the Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project. Minister Sipepa added that the discussions that will be made will not be centered on the financing of the project.
