Supa Mandiwanzira defends the Indigenization and Empowerment Act

Harare - Former president of the Union of Journalists, Matthew Takaona has said he is optimistic of the Zimbabwe Media Commission appointees. He has said the commissioners were appointed on a non-partisan basis except for two commissioners whose identity he did not reveal. He has said that the commission is ready to begin its work as media in the country needs urgent reforms and that it will be guided by the Global Political Agreement and Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA).

Affirmative Action Group President Supa Mandiwanzira has defended the Indigenization and Empowerment Act saying it cannot be changed. He said that the policy has been implemented by some companies, such as Schweppes, without any problems, stating that the workers have 31% of the shareholding; the management has 20% whilst Delta Corporation owns 49% of the shares. Meanwhile, the policy has drawn criticism from the Prime Minister's Office and Economists.

Bulawayo - Bulawayo Agenda has undertaken to conscientise women on the importance of participating in the Constitution making process. Constitutional debates have been so far held in Entumbane, Emakhandeni, Sizinda, Tshabalala, Makokoba, Pumula South and Old Magwegwe.

Upcoming Events

• On 24th of February 2010, the Bulawayo Agenda Gender and Development Department will be heading to Ntabazinduna where the women's consultations will take place.
• On the 25th of February 2010, Bulawayo Agenda will be holding a Special Focus Group Meeting at the King George, to encourage people with disabilities to participate in the Constitution making process.
• An interface meeting will be held at the Bulawayo Agenda Democracy Centre on the 26th of February and all are invited to participate in the dialogue.
