- A diabetic and an orphan, Pamela Nyathi (18) of Emakhandeni
Suburb who became blind as a result of diabetes is appealing for
assistance from well wishers to undergo an operation to restore
her sight. She hopes to continue with her education as she had to

The people of
Bulawayo have called for the repeal of the Public
Order and Security Act at a public hearing meeting held in Bulawayo
yesterday. Speakers from the public and representatives of different
organisations in the city called for the repeal of the law saying
that it is not a necessary instrument in the laws of Zimbabwe. The
majority of the participants who attended the meeting called for
the repeal of section 32 which calls for people to carry identity
documents with them. Other speakers also noted that there is need
for Parliament to suggest training for law enforcement agents noting
that in many cases they had misinterpreted the law. There were calls
from the participants for the members of the Parliamentary committee
on Defense and Security chaired by Honorable Paul Madzore to ensure
that the application of law would not be selective.
Mzingwane
- Pregnant women in Mzingwane District in Matabeleland
South province have turned their backs on the Mzingwane district
hospital citing the endless demands from the hospital as a problem.Women
who spoke to the Daily Agenda said that they now preffered giving
birth at home with the assistance of home based care workers than
at the hospital because of the endless demands.She said that pregnant
women were expected to bring their own surgical gloves and pegs
to the hospital. She said that the requirement by the hospital for
all women to be tested for HIV was also problematic for many as
they had also resulted in the breakup of homes. Most hospitals in
Zimbabwe have set as a policy that pregnant women be tested of HIV
before giving birth to prevent mother to child transmission.
