The
Daily Agenda
Bulawayo
Agenda
February 05, 2010
In the bid to provide information to its networks, stakeholders
and other interested parties, Bulawayo Agenda is reintroducing the
Daily Agenda; a compilation of alerts from the chapters and its
network of contacts located in areas where Bulawayo Agenda operates
from. The Daily Agenda offers an alternative source of information
from the mainstream media that is often restricted in terms of outreach
as it focuses on the grassroots.
The Daily Agenda
will provide information on critical governance and developmental
issues. It is our hope that the information provided will be useful
to our constituency of readership, particularly the leaders at the
local level and civil society practitioners, in informing and shaping
their choice of developmental objectives and initiatives.
Bulawayo-
Residents have complained that the water cuts that mainly affect
the Western suburbs are posing a threat to people's health.
Residents who spoke to the Daily Agenda said that they were worried
that the constant water cuts will result in a cholera outbreak.
Many have also complained that they could not understand the reasons
for the water cuts as the City Council has reported that Bulawayo
has enough water supplies.
Harare-
Student leaders at the
University of Zimbabwe were beaten by Campus security at a meeting
to address students on fees and accommodation crisis. The Secretary
General Grant Tabvurei is reported to have been failing to walk
after being beaten by the police. ZINASU
has filed a police report on the assault.
Plumtree-
Teachers at the local schools are disgruntled as they feel that
information from the meetings held by the Teachers' meetings
does not sift through to them. The report from Plumtree is that
teachers might be assumed to be at work but they are not conducting
any lessons. They have called on their unions to update them on
the developments in salary negotiations. Meanwhile, the hesitation
by the current Residents Association to elect a new and active committee
which will promote the welfare of local Plumtree residents is crippling
employment in the town.
Gweru-The
general feeling is that there will be no total representation for
the town as there are less than five people that made it into the
Constitutional Parliamentary Committee (Copac). The view from the
area has been that the five members who have made it to the thematic
committees are not going to be enough representation from the area.
Bulawayo Agenda
is a civil society organisation that deals with advocacy and democracy
issues. It is committed to providing a platform for people to express
their views and to engage and debate on issues that affect their
lives. It has active chapters in Gweru, Gwanda, Plumtree, Victoria
Falls, Matopo, Hwange, Binga, Nkayi, Lupane and Tsholotsho.
