Centre for Community Development in Zimbabwe (CCDZ)
    January 21, 2009

The Centre for Community Development in Zimbabwe (C.C.D.Z) urges President Robert Mugabe and ZANU PF to genuinely engage with the two MDC formations to facilitate the formation of an inclusive government without further delay.

Genuine power-sharing is when both ZANU PF and MDC-T have equal control over key ministries, ambassadors, gubernatorial seats and permanent secretaries. A genuine power-sharing deal is one in which the MDC-T has substantial control over the State Security Apparatus and other arms of the State that have been responsible for denying us our freedoms.

CCDZ's clear and unequivocal message is that the people of Zimbabwe have suffered enough from a debilitating economic and humanitarian crisis caused by bad governance. We urge President Mugabe to respect the outcome of the harmonized elections held on the 29th March, 2008. It is our considered view that the harmonized election was an emphatic endorsement of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change party by the people of Zimbabwe.

The outcome of the harmonized elections was a clear endorsement of Tsvangirai's MDC and a greenlight that the opposition should be the governing party. Respecting the outcome of the 2008 harmonized elections goes far in redeeming the pariah State that Zimbabwe has become.

We call upon the political leaders to cringe at the humanitarian crisis and to be guided by the common good rather than seek personal gratification. The SADC Extra-ordinary Summit to be held in South Africa next week must address the concerns being raised by MDC-T with regards to genuine power-sharing.
