Zimbabwe state
security agents on Monday intensified the crack down on human rights
activists abducting two more members of the Zimbabwe
Peace Project (ZPP) days after the abduction of the organisation's
national director, Jestina Mukoko.
The two, Broderick
Takawira and Pascal Gonzo were abducted at about 9 am at the ZPP
offices in Harare. Broderick Takawira is the Provincial Coordinator,
while Pascal Gonzo is a driver at ZPP.
According to
the Zimbabwe Lawyers
for Human Rights (ZLHR), "at least 5 unidentified men forcibly
entered the ZPP premises in Mount Pleasant and forced the security
guard who had attended to verifying the visitors at the gate to
show them Roderick Takawira. After greeting Broderick Takawira one
of the men forcibly held Takawira by the belt and asked him to accompany
them as they wanted to discuss some issues.
"The unidentified
men were in civilian clothes and travelling in Mazda familia sedans.
ZHLR added that two of the cars used for the abduction were parked
outside the ZPP premises while four more cars were parked a distance
away. ZLHR is filing a police report as colleagues and lawyers are
yet to establish the whereabouts of the ZPP employees.
Meanwhile, Zacharia
Nkomo, the brother to Harrison Nkomo a leading human rights lawyer
was abducted by four unidentified men in civilian clothes from his
in a pre-dawn swop at his home in Rujeko, Masvingo on Friday.
Zacharia was
once employed as a compliance officer for CARE International. Zacharia
resigned from the police force in 2004. The men responsible for
the abduction were traveling in two Toyota Virgo twin cabs green
and silver in colour. The motive for Zacharia's abduction
is still unknown.
