Bulawayo

WOZA activists Jenni Williams and Magodonga Mahlangu were remanded in custody to Monday 27 October in their bail application ruling as the Magistrate, Charity Maphosa was said to be unavailable. Sophie Matimba stood in for the absent magistrate. The two activists did not make it to the court session as Prison officials claimed not to have fuel to transport them.

Meanwhile, police from Mutare detained and severely assaulted a man from Nkayi for a period of four days because of suspicions that he was an illegal diamond miner. Mgcini Ncube left for Marange to mine gold but was arrested by police before he reached the area known to be rich in diamonds. He was thoroughly beaten up and was told at leaving the central police station that there they could not offer him any medication. The man, an unemployed sole bread winner, is responsible for his three children wife, niece and the niece?s child. Due to the harsh economic situation most people are failing to fend for their families and have resorted to illegal activities. Ncube is hospitalized at Galen House in Bulawayo.

ZANU PF supporters are going around misinforming people telling them to prepare for a bi-election. They have failed to assembly villagers thus disseminate this information by gate-crushing ward meetings. After the last ward meeting that had a total of 336 people the ZANU PF supporters came and demanded that people remain seated because they wanted to address them. To their disappointment, only 13 people remained behind. Councilors have refused to be manipulated by ZANU PF thugs who rely on the councilors to gather people for them to take advantage.
