Residents
feel the pinch of poor service delivery
Bulawayo
Agenda
September 22, 2008
Bulawayo:- Yesterday Bulawayo Progressive Residents
Association (BPRA) held a meeting with the residents of Pelandaba.
The meeting was addressed by the ward's Councillor, Lot Siziba.
Residents raised complaints about:
- service delivery
by state organs
- erratic water
supply
- electricity
load shedding that has resulted in the destruction of electric
appliances
- inconsistent
sewage collection that is a threat to hygiene
- discrimination
on partisan and tribal basis in food distribution
The councillor
said some of these issues are beyond the control of the council
and hoped that they will be solved in the new dispensation.
Tsholotsho:-
Villagers are starving as there are no humanitarian organisations
or government food aid initiatives to provide them with basic commodities.
Of late villagers have been surviving on wild fruits like umsosobiyane
but the wild fruit is now going off-season. People have since resorted
to umsuma, a wild fruit known to be eaten by birds. In an attempt
to get the fruit before it is eaten by birds, villagers harvest
it before it is ripe and then store it in warm and dry place to
speed up the ripening.
Plumtree:
- Today a truck delivered 600 50kg bags of maize. Villagers prefer
the maize to the BACOSSI food scheme saying the maize is sold fairly
and frequently as compared to the items from the popular scheme.
BACOSSI items were sold on partisan basis and in most cases some
items were missing from the hampers. Last week a train delivered
five wagons of maize in the town.
