Solidarity Veterans
April 12, 2008
120 veterans of the solidarity
movements in Sweden on Saturday April 12 signed a statement urging
the release of election results in Zimbabwe: "We support the
demands of the Zimbabwean people for an immediate release of untampered
election results."
Seasoned veterans of
the Swedish movement for solidarity with the peoples of southern
Africa had met in Sigtuna, to reflect on lessons learnt from solidarity
work since the early 1970s. The conference had about 20 guests from
southern Africa (Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe)
and was organized by a dozen of the heavyweight organizations behind
Swedish solidarity work, from the trade union, to church organizations,
and organizations formed for solidarity, such as the Africa Groups.
