  • Political maturity required for all Zimbabweans
Association of Zimbabweans Based Abroad. (AZBA)
    April 03, 2008

Once again, Zimbabweans the world over, find themselves having to deal with inefficiencies and political gamesmanship that has characterized the Mugabe regime and any and all of its institutions; the Zimbabwe Elections Commission (ZEC) being of particular interest at this time. The Mugabe regime and Zimbabweans find themselves in very unfamiliar territory. For the first time, since independence, the possibility of a change of power has never been so eminent and based on election results that have been released so far, that possibility is turning into reality by the minute. The Association of Zimbabweans Based Abroad calls upon all Zimbabweans to show a high level political maturity and not slide into anarchy.

We call upon ZEC to expeditiously release all the remaining election results. ZEC should stop feeding speculation of election results by introducing some level of predictability that is characteristic of similar organizations. What was needed was a clear commitment to release results as and when collated not to wait for external pressure. This has led to an appearance of partisanship on ZEC's part.

To the political parties, we urge all to place the countries welfare ahead of any personal interests. Zimbabweans have suffered enough of political deprivation, torture, denial of basic human rights and economic meltdown. It is time to rebuild this nation and the people have spoken that they want change and are ready to pick their lives once again.

To the masses of Zimbabwe, we remind you that no political party is above reproach. We call upon all to remain calm and not be drawn into any form of violence. Your vote is your voice and we believe you have spoken resoundingly.
