Harare - Lovemore
Madhuku, the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) is currently
in detention at Harare Central Police Station after he took part
in a demonstration with more 300 members of his organisation.
About 50 NCA members have been taken to a private hospital after
they sustained serious injuries from the police assualts.
What started as a peaceful march near the Main Post Office turned
violent at the Africa Unity Square where the police rounded up the
demonstrators together with their leader Madhuku.
The police ordered the activists to lie down but Madhuku refused
and started to address the police and his members saying: 'We are
fighting for a genuine cause which you the police might also benefit...'
As Madhuku went on with the address NCA members starterd responding
and the police felt danger resulting in them bundling Madhuku into
a truck and took him to police.
As soon as he
was in the closed truck, police used button sticks to disperse NCA
members but some could not walk because of the injuries. They had
to be ferried into an NCA truck so that are are taken to a hospital.
Alec Muchadehama, the NCA lawyer is attending to Madhuku. His number
is: +263 91 218 754.
