| Jenni
Williams and members of WOZA leaving Harare magistrates court
in October 2004 |
Just
people cannot obey unjust laws, says Jenni Williams, the national
coordinator of Women
of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) when asked why her organisation had
not informed the police about their bread and roses
march as required by the Public
Order and Security Act (POSA).
Jenni Williams
said there was no need to inform the police about their activities
because people have a constitutional right to march. She said POSA
is an unjust law and does not see why it should apply to WOZA. If
you read POSA, it says for any functions of a political nature -
we are women talking about bread and butter issues, that is not
politics! she added. listen

According to
Jenni Williams the Bread and Roses Marches were successful especially
because of the positive response from the general public. She commended
Bulawayo residents for their support and determination to pick up
WOZA flyers and roses right in front of the police. listen
