13 people displaced in Chipinge South
Zimbabwe Peace Project
April 20, 2005

Thirteen people, most of them who served as MDC election agents in the March general elections were allegedly displaced by Zanu PF supporters in a fresh wave of political retribution in Chipinge South recently.

Reports have it that the evictions were as a result of concerted efforts by some war veterans, Zanu PF supporters and some members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

Most of the displaced are said to be living in safe houses in the Eastern border city of Mutare, whose locations could not be immediately established. The said victims, 10 of whom were MDC election agents are: EB (27), SM (21), CM (22), JM, NM, ANC, SK, JS DM, EM and three others whose names were not given.

Most of the alleged victims come from the Chibuwe, Mwanyisa and Macheta areas, where it is claimed Zanu PF torture bases have sprouted exponentially after the ruling party narrowly won the mandate to represent the constituency in parliament.

It is claimed EB, from Chibuwe village was shot at by a ZRP Inspector Mabunda on election day and has been living in hiding ever since the alleged incident.
