More than thirty families have been allegedly evicted from three farms in Hurungwe East, following reports that some ruling party suporters, on Saturday 9th April, begun a witch-hunt campaign to sniff out Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) supporters who actively campaigned for the opposition party during the just ended general elections.

It is reported that three farms namely Protea, van Eden and Helwin farms on which people had been resettled as A1 farmers have so far been identified and opposition supporters resettled at these farms have been facing eviction since the 9th of this month.

The evictions, it is said are being spearheaded by one Machinga a Zanu PF activist through local councillors. The constituency was won by Zanu PF’s Reuben Marumahoko in March this year.

One Chimonera, a local Chairperson from van Eden farm was allegedly assaulted on the 9th by unidentified people after he refused to lend a hand in the alleged evictions. The said victim is said to be living with his family on the fireguard that borders the farm.
