Zanu PF councillors in Mberengwa have allegedly stepped up retribution and victimisation campaigns against the MDC using food distribution programmes.

Committees headed by coordinators and set up by local councillors a week before the March 31st elections are organising the distribution of maize which reports say, is discriminatory in nature.

It is said villagers who refused to ‘register’ to vote for the ruling party before the elections were being denied access to maize that arrived at Mnene General Hospital two days ago.

Two Zanu PF councillors MH (Magamba ward) and DH (Ruremekedzo ward) allegedly ‘elected’ TC and HS to oversee the process in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

According to reports, ‘registration’ and food distribution centres have been established at Mataga Growth Point, Mnene General Hospital and Jeka business centre for the process of assisting villagers obtain National Identity particulars, raising speculations that some could have voted without proper IDs.
