Medair
in Zimbabwe: Future in doubt

After working in Zimbabwe
since March 2003, Medair's time in the country may be coming to an end.
With the government having declared the emergency that has crippled the
country for the past 2 years over, several NGO's, including Medair, find
that their registrations to work have not been renewed.
Consequently, the
school feeding programme in Mudzi and Gokwe North, which would normally
provide 85,000 primary school children with one meal every day has been
suddenly halted.
Though the food is
in the warehouses we cannot distribute it. Similarly, our planned HIV/AIDS
training programme for 700 Primary School teachers in Mudzi, though recently
approved by the Ministry of Education, is also on hold while we wait to
see whether registration will be granted. We are keen to remain and continue
to serve the most needy people in Zimbabwe, and hope we will be allowed
to do so.
