Harare-Munich Partnership protests arrest of NCA protestors

Munich - It was with great concern that we heard news of the arrest of hundreds of Zimbabwe citizens on the 22nd October. These people were exercising their democratic right of peaceful demonstration. (At least) 78 people have been charged under the draconian and undemocratic Public Order Security Act (POSA). At least one person was also charged who was not taking part in the demonstration.

We expect those charged to be given access to lawyers, which was denied when they were charged; and that if any of the arrested have been mishandled that the perpetrators will be punished.
