Reform
all electoral systems
Zimbabwe
Liberators Platform (ZLP)
September 2003
The Zimbabwe
Liberators Platform (ZLP), a non-governmental organisation, formed
by genuine war veterans advocating for peace, democracy, good governance
and development, holds that there cannot be free, fair and transparent
elections in Zimbabwe if the following are not done:
- A new electoral
framework that provides for an independent electoral authority
and independent monitoring and observation of elections
- Implementation
of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary
Forum's Norms and Standards for Elections
- Scrapping
of all draconian legislation like Public Order and Security Act
(POSA), Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA)
and the Broadcast Services Act.
- Liberalisation
of air waves and the public media
- All political
parties must have equal access to the public media
- Dismantling
of militia groups
- Unfettered
distribution of private newspapers throughout the country
- Unbiased
application of the law by the enforcement agents.
