Bulawayo
ICT Training
Workshop: The National Youth Development Trust (NYDT) held an ICT
training workshop on Thursday November 21, 2013. The workshop was
attended by 20 young people at a local Internet Cafe in the Bulawayo
central business district. The choice of venue was informed by the
availability of many computers within the same room. The young people
received training on introduction to computers, internet, blogging
and social networks. The participants were tasked to regularly post
and comment on NYDT social networks and blog sites as a way of tracking
their progress with regards to use of ICTs. A follow up training
will be held with the same participants with a specific focus on
citizen journalism in order to enable the youths to fully utilise
their newly acquired ICT skills.
Young Women’s
Roundtable Discussion: The organisation convened a roundtable discussion
on gender based violence on Friday November 22, 2013. The meeting
was attended by young women who are members of the NYDT and other
civil society organisations and aimed at providing a platform for
young women to deliberate on the causes, manifestations and effects
of gender based violence while interfacing them with various support
structures for survivors of GBV. Another aim was to create strategic
partnerships with other organisations in the fight against Gender
Based Violence ahead of 16 Days of Activism.
During the discussion
whose theme was, “Challenging All Forms Of Violence Against
Women,” the young women had the opportunity to discuss the
various forms of gender based violence, available legislation and
policies to protect women, as well as the services offered by various
organisations for survivors of gender based violence. The young
women had interactions and information materials from Zimbabwe
Women Lawyers Association, Emthonjeni Women’s Forum and
Contact Family counselling Services. In turn, the young women are
expected to share the information received with other young women
on their areas of residence as a way of making sure more people
(both young men and women) are involved in the fight against gender
based violence.
