Fear of disease out-break as water shortage looms in Chitungwiza
Youth Forum
October 08, 2013

Youth Forum District Chairperson Philemon Jambaya reported that a health crisis is looming in Manyame Park, Chitungwiza as the suburb has gone for days without water.

Residents fear a high chance of a disease outbreak as they are being denied access to clean water with no explanations as to what is really happening.

“They should put notices to advice about the water disconnections”, said Philemon Jambaya

Others lamented the long hours that they are now spending on water queues at boreholes and wells.

“We are wasting a lot of time in water queues and to be frank with you I am not happy with the situation”, said Raymond Dambakurima.

The continued outbreak of water borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera and dysentery has exposed the Chitungwiza city council’s failure to provide clean water to residents.

To compensate for the lack of clean water people in Chitungwiza are now forced to fetch water from Hunyani River.

Giving voice to their disappointment the Manyame Park residents respectively accuse the city fathers of failing to give priority to their basic right.

The newly elected mayor of the city of Chitungwiza Philip Mutoti assured this reporter that it is one of his priorities to give clean water to the residents of Chitungwiza.

“The issue of clean water is one of my priorities so I assure the people of Chitungwiza that as soon as we get into office we will deal with this issue. Mutoti said.
