update - Week ending 12 October 2012
National Youth Development Trust
October 12, 2012
The National
Youth Development Trust (NYDT) held a two day Leadership and Capacity
Building Training workshop at Maleme Dam Lodge in Matobo. The workshop
was attended by young people from tertiary institutions, artists
groups and out of school youths.
The main aim
of the workshop was to capacitate young people with concise leadership
skills which they are expected to implement in their various communities.
The key topics in the workshop included conceptualizing leadership,
understanding community mobilization, human rights monitoring and
documentation, citizen reporting and gender mainstreaming in community
mobilization. Youths engaged with each other and exchanged ideas
on how they can organize themselves to fully take part in the broader
national development agenda.
The highly charged
group of young people challenged the NYDT to avail more platforms
in which young people discuss such topics at an in-depth level.
They also urged the organisation to gradually give young people
practical assignments as a means of linking theoretical knowledge
and practical skills.
