Youth Forum membership gets major boost as Mkoba MP Chibaya pays full subscription
Youth Forum
September 27, 2012

Following the unanimous adoption of a resolution calling for mandatory membership subscriptions fees at the just ended Youth Forum inaugural congress held on the 6th-9th of September, 2012, in Harare, the Youth Forum has received a major boost from outspoken Mkoba Constituency Member of Parliament, Honourable Amos Chibaya, who becomes the first fully subscribed Youth Forum member following full payment of membership and subscription fees on 26 September 2012.

The Youth Forum is humbled by the continued support from Honourable Amos Chibaya and the Parliament of Zimbabwe at large. Honourable Chibaya has single-handedly made the Youth Parliament Dialogue Initiative a reality on the Youth Forum calendar of activities as he has assisted the Youth Forum to access Parliament, parliamentarians and committees of parliament without any hassles.

Hon. Chibaya said he strongly believed in the organization's aims and objectives of empowering young Zimbabweans, "It is rare that you get young people coming together to decide what they want for their future, and when you get such an opportunity, it would only be dim-witted for any young Zimbabwean not to want to be part of such an initiative."

The Inaugural Youth Forum Congress agreed that members of the organization pay a joining fee which was pegged at US$1, which would make one a member of the organization. It was also agreed that there will be a US$5 annual subscription fee and honourable Chibaya became the first legislator to pay his US$6 to become a fully subscribed Youth Forum member. The vibrant MP has been known to advance youth issues at many platforms he addresses, and his latest gesture is proof of his commitment to youth empowerment.

The adopted Youth Forum constitution clearly stipulates how the membership fees shall be paid, Section 3.5 states: "There shall be an annual membership fee payable on joining the Forum and thereafter payable by no later than 31 March of each subsequent year. The annual membership fee shall be determined by Congress from time to time." It was the Inaugural Congress that determined the prevailing membership fees.

The Youth Forum Secretary for Information and Publicity, Raviriyashe Mpasiri, commenting on Hon. Chibaya's membership, said: "The Youth Forum has had support from members of parliament across the political divide, as it stands for the interest of the youths and not of any political party, hence we urge youthful parliamentarians from all political parties to lead the way and become members of the new youth thinking led by the Youth Forum."

Membership fees are expected to go a long way in complementing the support that the Youth Forum currently receives from various development partners.
