Youth Forum inaugural congress: Zimbabwe will never be the same again
Youth Forum
September 11, 2012

Zimbabwe Will Never be the Same Again!' These were the words of the elated incoming Youth Forum National Chairperson, Sally Dura, at the Youth Forum's inaugural Congress held on 7-8 September 2012 at Hunyani Hills Hotel, Lake Chivero in Harare. "With this historic event in the development dispensation of our country, the first time for young people to come together and decide their own destiny, the economic, political and social dispensation of the country will never be the same again!" she proclaimed.

Together with 8 others, Sally was elected into the new Youth Forum Board, the National Executive Committee (NEC), which was tasked with the implementation of the Congress's resolutions. She becomes the first Chairperson of the first Youth Forum NEC, which is a first of its kind among youth organizations.

"This development of organizing young men and women into a formidable force comes at the most appropriate time, when Zimbabwe is faced with a myriad of problems, an inconclusive Government trying to dupe people into believing it is competent enough to write a constitution for them, continual economic marginalisation of young people, and it is this coming together that will send shock waves to the responsible, or is it irresponsible authorities" she continued

The inaugural congress culminated in the election of the 9 NEC members of which 5 are females and four are males. The other elected office holders are Kudakwashe Munemo (Vice Chairperson) Manifest Jabuli (Secretary General) Faith Chinooneka (Treasurer General) Raviroyashe Mpasiri (Secretary for Information and Publicity) as well as four Committee Members: Getrude Bvindi, Sijabuliso Sibanda, Takudzwa Chirinda and Joe Maravanyika.

This group of mandated young leaders will serve only one 2-year term, as the organizational constitution, debated and adopted by the Congress, clearly and unequivocally states that there will be no recycling of leaders. At the end of their two-year term, they will relinquish power to another new democratically elected leadership.

It is also rare in the African context to find leaders who willingly and without the application of force, sometimes violent, leave office to allow new leaders to take over. This type of leadership is what was exhibited by the first Chairperson of the Youth Forum, Mr. Madock Chivasa, who left the office so that other young leaders can take from where he left. "As a Chairpesron of the Forum, I have gave it my best, I had my shortcomings as well as my achievements which I will leave behind, and it is my sincere hope that your new and accountable leadership will be able to build from what is there" said Mr. Chivasa.

Mr. Chivasa is the founding Chairperson of the organization and worked tirelessly for the success of the organization and it is believed that the newly elected leadership will have the same dedication and zeal as shown by Mr. Chivasa.
