Mugabe's
misrule a serious threat and an impediment to the advancement of
the African Child
Youth of Zimbabwe for Transparency and Progress (YZTP)
June 14, 2012
There is nothing
real to emulate from Mugabe's over three decades of misrule
and plunder. Just as the apartheid leaders used force to suppress
public discontent, Mugabe through his notorious north Korean trained
5th brigade used lethal force to massacre over 20 000 people in
Matabeleland and the Midlands, many of whom youths of below the
age of 35, women and children. This wholesale and atrocious act
perpetrated against a minority Ndebele tribe can unquestionable
make him qualify to stand and answer charges for crimes against
humanity, in the Hague along side Lauret Gbagbo. The gruesome murder
of innocent civilians during the Gukurahundi were worse than those
committed in Rwanda. Mugabe as the chief engineer of such a heinous
crusade, which was actual a genocide, can not be distinguished in
any way from his predecessors whose main blame was, to a considerable
degree, the mistreatment of Africans, but they managed their economies
skillfully, with greater accountability and transparency.
It will never be an
exaggeration to put the octogenarian leader in the same category
with the likes of Idi Amin, Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Muamma Gadaffi,
Mobuto Seseko, Charles Tailor, Omar al Basir and Lauret Gbagbo,
his dearest friend, but he is head and shoulders above all of them,
when it comes to the art of tyranny. Up to this day, the authoritarian
leader who have ruined and maintained his power by military fiat,
have continued to use force to suppress the voice of reason. It
therefore remains true that as apartheid and colonialism were evil
and a threat to the development of the African Child then, dictatorship
and autocracy are equally satanic and hindrance to the advancement
and aspirations of the African Child today.
It is not a
secret that many in Zimbabwe have perished for merely demanding
justice, equity and food at their tables. Serious economic mismanagement,
coupled with excessive looting of our precious resources since 1980,
has landed the entire nation into a tray of crushing poverty, consistent
inequality and perpetual uncertainity. The diamond that Zimbabweans
sincerely hoped would bring some blessings, is gradual becoming
a curse. It has promoted enduring inequality with some in the political
hierarch buying private jets for their children who learn abroad,
at the expense of the impoverished masses. Such resources have remained
at the disposal of a narrow elite and the majority have remained
stuck in the shadows of poverty with little or no hope for the future.
A cabal aligned to the long serving ancestral leader has continued
to use the so called Indigenization
and Empowerment Act as a propaganda tool and continuously plunder
our resources to finance their luxurious lifestyle as if they are
more Zimbabwean than others. The so called land reform which in
actual fact is a land grab, is another desperate propaganda machinery
that failed to bear fruits. Such policies have far reaching effects
and have impacted negatively upon the African child today. No economy
the world over was ever built on the foundation or bases of theft.
That is barbarism with serious negative effects.
It is unfortunate that
the wobble inclusive regime lead by Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, Welshman
Ncube and Robert Mugabe has failed to effectively address a myriad
of challenges bedeviling the African Child today. Unemployment rate
has remained at an alarming 70% among the youths with the majority
of them rooming the streets. Many others have resorted to illegal
gold panning and other risk and illicit ventures, with no feasibility,
to earn a living. It is a challenge. Graduate unemployment has remained
high owing to a constrained industrial base and low investment opportunity.
Drop out rate at universities and colleges have sky rocketed.33%
of the primary school going age group is out of school owing to
financial inadequacy. Schools and hospitals are operating at far
below 10% capacity. By destroying the education system, Mugabe has
actual thrown the whole generation into a dustbin. To try to chronicle
all the challenges militating against the African child will sound
like a chorus. You will never exhaust. Only God knows. We have lost
the present and the future.
It is disappointing
to note that up to this day perpetrators of some of the most criminal
acts against humanity are still walking scot free in the presence
of an Inclusive Arrangement. The Inclusive
Government has continued to underestimate the people's
power, a dangerous character which will never promote national peace
and security. There is continued and blatant violation of the UN
and AU declarations and charter on the rights of women and children.
Such kind of misbehavior by those in positions of leadership is
very irresponsible, treacherous and suicidal. It is a serious betrayal
to the aspirations of the African Child. There is no comprehensive
and workable policy frame work to confront the challenges of unemployment,
growing poverty and destitution among the youths. Evidence is overwhelming
that the Inclusive Government is gradually divorcing itself from
the people.
There is always need to bear in mind that whilst we commemorate
the heroism of those who perished fighting for justice in Soweto
- South Africa, we must always remember and give credit to
many others who have suffered and died for demanding the same back
home.
