ZANU PF 5th Youth Congress a non-event for youths
Youth Alliance for Democracy
September 14, 2009

Youth Alliance for Democracy dismisses the just ended 5th ZANU PF Youth Congress as a non-event for the youths for it only advanced the wishes of the already established ZANU PF politicians, who only want to use youths as implementers of their desires, legitimizing their interests and mobilizers in their campaigns.

The youths who made it in the so called leadership positions only thrived by aligning themselves to either Mujuru or Munangagwa camps who have their clear intentions to succeed the ageing ZANU PF leader President Mugabe, who also took the platform to as usual castigate the western countries and the MDC. .His speech reflected more on the usual vitriol poured at the discending voices and also buttressing of his position for example on the Kariba draft.

To us the policy that youth under the age of thirty should take all the position is a deception and a political disdain meant to endear ZANU PF with the youths who are usually used as lumpen proletariat in ZANU PF'S dirty schemes. The multi-million dollar question is who they report to, the one who has control. Obviously it is those who have the control of resources in the party, the already established politicians whose strength is mainly in the use of militia as clear documented in our past and present.

The fact that the most powerful position that of Secretary of Youth will come from a presidential nomination selected from the politburo members really shows how ceremonial other elected youths are for they are rarely heard on important matters. It ponders the mind as to whether they will be a youth who can emerge from that ZANU PF highest decision making board given that Saviour Kasukuwere is one of the youngest at almost 40.

We take this opportunity to also challenge the Zimbabwe National Youth Council Act 25:19 which also gives the president blank cheque powers with regards to determining the youths who sit in the youth commission. One can therefore safely argue that the so called congress was only a beginning of recipe for disaster as youths were only incited to hate those who oppose their masters. Youths are not independent minded for they owe their eligibility to the posts which they hold to some handlers who have a bad record of using them as weapons of mass destruction.

Woe to those who call restrictions sanctions, let them address what caused the restrictions before they demand for their uplifting. First things first.
