New Constitution-making process - Index of articles
7
lessons from the disrupted all stakeholders' conference
Youth Forum
July 14, 2009
1. ZANU PF is comfortable with the current constitution
hence no need to craft another one, another one is most likely to
dilute the powers of their leader and lessen his capability to manipulate
the systems of governance in the country. The new people driven
constitution will see their party crumble as their leader is the
epicenter of power hence his decline is likely to bring the party
to its knees.
2. ZANU PF is not ready to handover power for the
simple reason that the party took a leading role in liberating Zimbabwe
from the colonial bondage, as expressed through their song and dance.
They emphasized that Zimbabwe came as a result of blood and accused
those against them of wishing to sell this country and therefore
deserve to be killed.
3. ZANU PF is not repentant for the butchering
of innocent Zimbabweans in the run-up to June 27 presidential run-off
considering that during this era when all stakeholders are strategizing
on how best to carry out national healing process they are doing
nothing except to open more wounds and even boasting of being masters
of violence.
4. ZANU PF
has no respect for the Global
Political Agreement despite the fact that it's the one
which gave legitimacy to the presidency of their party leader to
this country.
5. The media
is still dominated by ZANU PF as evidenced by false claims on national
television that Zimbabwe
Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), National
Constitutional Assembly (NCA) and Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU) disrupted the conference. This
defies logic considering the fact that the group which disrupted
the conference came amidst a dead silence as people were listening
attentively to the welcome remarks by Speaker of parliament. They
were led by Saviour Kasukuwere, Joseph Chinotimba, Patrick Zhuwawo
and Nyasha Chikwinya.Unless these people have joined any of the
accused organisations the ZANU PF journalists need to revisit their
modules on ethics of journalism.
6. The so called conference was meant to be a rally
where politicians were going to take turns to terrorize the micro-phone
and the role of ordinary Zimbabweans was to listen and endorse through
various means which include clapping and whistling. Interest groups
such as youths and the handicapped were not anywhere near the programme
which was dominated by politicians. Using such a methodology we
are likely to have politicians driven autocratic constitution.
7. Zimbabwe Republic police is still partisan.
How can riot police come 20 minutes after the incident and arrest
the victims instead of the perpetrators?
In conclusion the sentiments by Prime-Minister Morgan
Tsvangirai that we are now in a new dispensation where democracy,
tolerance and unity are gathering momentum are contrary to reality,
given this sad incident. It will only be left to the world of imagination,
what will prevail in rural and other marginalized communities if
such barbaric acts happen in front of ministers and members of houses
of assembly. It is also mind boggling as to whether people of Zimbabwe
will be free to express their views having witnessed chaos and anarchy
which prevailed at HICC.
