New Constitution-making process - Index of articles
Zanu
PF at it again
Youth Forum
July 13, 2009
In a typical mafia style
ZANU PF has single-handedly disrupted the so called all stakeholders
constitutional conference scheduled for Harare International Conference
Center on the 13th and 14th of July. This has put weight to the
suspicion that ZANU PF had deliberately called for the postponement
of this conference, which was supposed to be held on the 10th of
July, to mobilize against 'anti-Kariba draft elements'.
This had followed overwhelming opposition of the use of Kariba draft
as the only reference in crafting the constitution.
Any man or woman of average
prudence could smell a rat with the levels of tension exhibited
by shouting, singing, clapping and whistling against each other
by ZANU PF and MDC-T supporters who had taken their seats by around
8:30 am, eagerly waiting for 'the historic moment of inputting
in the constitutional making process to kick start'.
All hell broke
lose around midday when visibly drunk ZANU PF thugs led by Saviour
Kasukuwere, Minister of Youth, Empowerment and Indigenization who
is also a party cadre, Joseph Chinotimba, a war veteran, Patrick
Zhuwawo, ZANU PF Director of Youth and Nyasha Chikwinya, a former
ZANU PF Member of Parliament. They abruptly entered into the conference
room singing revolutionary songs denouncing all those against Kariba
Draft. The Speaker of Parliament Hon L.N Moyo had to prematurely
conclude his welcome remarks, following furore which had taken precedence.
When he moved from the
podium glasses and jars were seen going towards all directions from
this group of hoodlums which had taken over the center stage. Pandamoneum
intensified as more than 3000 'delegates' started to
flee for their dear lives. Riot Police only arrived after 20 minutes
of serious confusion and as usual they arrested MDC and Civic Society
activists who were by then trying to defend themselves.
The implications
of such actions are that people of Zimbabwe are no longer secure
hence they cannot express themselves freely in this constitutional
making process. The benchmarks of the Constitutional Making Process
as set in the Global
Political Agreement will not be met. Trust which has been built
from the inception of the inclusive government has automatically
been lost by all important partners. ZANU PF has obviously proven
beyond reasonable doubt that it is a party of great deception and
insincere in all its dealings.
