    Zimbabwe Youth Forum
    October 30, 2008

Youth Forum calls upon all democratic forces to continue piling pressure on the Mugabe regime. It has continuously given a blind eye to the grievances of the generality of Zimbabweans and has continued to be arrogant in the wake of the people's wishes following its defeat in the March 29 poll. Lack of sincerity in solving the Zimbabwean crisis as evidenced by ZANU PF's intention to grab all powerful ministries in the current power sharing deal is a testimony that they are content with current political and economic stalemate. With a ZANU PF government in place there is no rush to form an inclusive government. Instead the regime is concentrating on media campaigns to defend itself and it is really aware that SADC and AU are mere paper tigers without the capacity to implement their decisions. These bodies are further crippled with the divisions rocking them, which are mainly based on those who bask in the past in the name of having liberated their countries and others who call a spade a spade when it comes to democratization and governance issues.

As Youth Forum we strongly feel that United Nations Security Council should consider imposing sanctions on the regime to pile more pressure for it to succumb to the people's wishes as expressed in the last election held on March 29.We respect the efforts being made by African leaders to alleviate the crisis bedeviling this nation, However we feel local actions are not loud enough to mount pressure on the Mugabe regime. Recently people in the name of women, students and youths were on the streets demanding the quick solution to the suffering of Zimbabweans but they were thwarted, as usual, with state brutality, exposing once more the insincerity of ZANU PF in the current power sharing talks.

We feel the pressure on ZANU PF should increase. All the pro-democratic forces should join hands on the streets. The African leaders and the international community as whole cannot go alone whilst we wait and see. There is need to intensify pressure from all angles to dislodge dictatorship in this country. The silence which is in this country against the Crisis which is prevailing can be mistaken for understanding ZANU PF rhetoric that they are not to blame for the crisis. WE STILL HAVE MANY BATTLES TO FIGHT TO DEMOCRATISE ZIMBABWE.
