  • Mugabe admits defeat
    Zimbabwe Youth Forum
    April 21, 2008

. . . ..vows to continue despite being vanquished.

The losing Zanu-PF presidential candidate in the March 29 presidential poll, Robert Mugabe openly admitted that he lost the election in his independence day speech, but however emphasized it is only through the barrel of the gun that this country can be taken over from him. He said that a pen and a paper cannot take the country which was liberated by the loss of blood and lives of many Zimbabweans. He said that even if he dies this country will be ruled by a spirit medium. He even lambasted the non-governmental organizations for encouraging people to vote for the opposition MDC and he took the greater part of his time narrating how it was difficult to liberate this country and asking the people whether they have forgotten about it. 'Makanganwa manje makati better kubhutsura VaMugabe tidzokere pasi pevarungu (you have forgotten the role I played and you now want to dislodge me and return to white rule).' His speech was more of a lecture on neo-colonialism and he strongly boasted that he would not allow this country "to be controlled by whites again". He took most of the time trying to justify the economic problems bedeviling this country and putting all the blame on Britain, US, the EU and other western countries.

The Youth Forum views Mugabe's actions as a direct coup against the wishes of the majority of Zimbabweans. The people are fed up with Mugabe's tyranny and the subsequent economic turmoil which is rocking the country as a result of the Mugabe regime's bad governance. We have always castigated a de facto one party state which has prevailed in Mugabe's 28 year rule but we strongly see that it has manifested itself in a much more evil way. We take this opportunity to castigate the current state of emergency which has been imposed by Mugabe as characterized by the current curfews, brutalisation of innocent civilians and MDC supporters, heavy presence of soldiers and police in public places, the recent purchase of Chinese arms and ammunition and hate speeches by the geriatric meant to intimidate Zimbabweans. The recent happenings are a true replica of what happened in the 2000 and 2002 elections which followed the defeat of ZANU PF in a constitutional referendum. We strongly urge all African statesmen and the international community at large to be instrumental in allowing the manifestation of the people's will in Zimbabwe as testified by the March 29 elections. It is better to intervene now than to wait for further loss of blood. People will obviously remain calm for sometime but there are levels where people will have to fight back. We urge all the people, youths in particular to remain vigilant and prepare to take decisive action in the event that this post-election mess continues unabated.

Youths stand up and defend your vote.
