Youth Forum board chairperson further remanded to March 3
Zimbabwe Youth Forum (ZYF)
January 18, 2008

The Youth Forum board chairperson and National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) national spokesperson has been remanded for the 4th time to March 3. Business at the magistrates' courts in Masvingo was generally very slow and lackadaisical yesterday with most cases being postponed to further dates since most court officials wanted to familiarize with their work environment after more than two months of job action. Magistrates, prosecutors, court interpreters and clerks were recently bullied into submission by the government of Zimbabwe to get back to work after being awarded a paltry 600% salary adjustment which was far from their demands. Commentators believe that the slow pace of work at the Zimbabwean courts is largely attributable to the latent frustration building up in the judiciary as a result of threats received from government to end their job action.

Madock Chivasa, a vibrant former student leader and audacious rights activists is facing charges of criminal nuisance which arose on the 27th of September last year when he addressed a Youth Forum public meeting at Charles Austin Hall in Masvingo. The heroic activist had to negotiate through his lawyers for a later remand date in March to pave way for him to concentrate on his tight work schedule.

Meanwhile, the Youth Forum scoffs at cowardly remarks by the minister of justice, legal and parliamentary affairs Patrick Chinamasa who said that international observers where not a legal requirement. The Youth Forum takes these remarks as a serious intention by the Zimbabwean government to rig the forth coming election.
