Young
Africa more alive than ever!
Young Africa
August 03, 2007
Young Africa has been
used very cheaply lately in an attempt to bring out negative news
on the country. The website Zimdaily, pretending to be a professional
news website, has published two false stories about our satellite
centre in Epworth, stating that it was harassed during our annual
sports festival and recently even claiming that it was closed down
by CIO's.
Let me tell you this,
Young Africa, both in Chitungwiza and Epworth, is more alive than
ever! We have had a great first six months of the year, with more
beneficiaries coming to the skills centres than ever before! At
present, we have over 2200 beneficiaries coming to YASC for training,
the youth club, film screenings, library, internet café and
the crèche. Also the sports festival in both Chitungwiza
and Epworth was a great success, attracting over 4000 visitors.
Our opening of the new
semester was visited by a huge amount of interested new students,
so we look forward to reaching even more beneficiaries during the
second half of the year. As the socio-economic climate in Zimbabwe
gets worse, there is more work to do for us, reaching out to the
underprivileged youth. The preparations for the annual Young Africa
Arts Festival (YAAF) in both Chitungwiza (1 and 2 September) and
Epworth (25 August) are very promising and we are looking forward
to very good competitions and performances in dance, music, drama
and literature.
Let's not believe
what 'press' people write, they are paid to write whatever people
want to read, but let's keep our eyes open, especially for
the opportunities that are still there, and work together to support
the youth in building their future and their country.
