Zimbabwe wins non-governmental organisations expo award

Zimbabwe (AAI Zimbabwe) has for the second time running in 2012
won yet another floating trophy for best stand display at the National
Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO) Expo which
took place in Harare in September 2012.
The NANGO Expo
trophy was handed over to AAI Zimbabwe Country Director, Ronnie
Murungu on 29 November 2012 at a non-governmental organisations
(NGO) Directors' Forum organised by NANGO and held in Nyanga,
Manicaland Province of Zimbabwe. NANGO is a coordinating umbrella
body for NGOs in Zimbabwe aimed at the strengthening of the voice
of civil society.
AAI Zimbabwe
exhibited at the NANGO Expo for 2012 held in Harare between 5 and
7 September 2012. A total of 52 NGOs implementing work in various
sectors participated at the showcase. "The trophy is awarded
to the NGO whose presentation is excellent, the material exhibited
is relevant to the organisation's work and the exhibition
is attracts large crowds," said Munya Mataruse, who is the
Northern Region (Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces
of Zimbabwe) Coordinator for NANGO. In 2012 NANGO is celebrating
50 years of service and it hosted the 2012 Expo under the theme
"celebrating 50 years of participatory development."
AAI Zimbabwe
exhibited at the NANGO Expo together with its participatory democracy
partners, namely Masvingo Residents and Ratepayers Association (MURRA)
and Women's Trust. MURRA, interventions benefit more than
10 000 Masvingo urban residents. It focuses on advocating for quality
social services provision for residents with main focus on women
and youth. Women's Trust's operations are in 16 districts
spread across the country and main area of work is on building capacities
of women in gender mainstreaming, leadership and empowerment. Over
6000 women are supported by Women's
Trust interventions.
In August 2012,
AAI Zimbabwe scored a first for the organisation to win
the number one prize under all NGOs which exhibited at the Harare
Agricultural Show held from 17-25 August 2012. The Harare Agricultural
Show is one of Zimbabwe's biggest showcases which attracts
local, regional and international exhibitors. Various sectors including,
the non-governmental, private, parastatals and government players
exhibit in the Harare Agricultural Show.
AAI Zimbabwe,
whose vision is "A Zimbabwe without poverty and injustice
in which every person enjoys their right to a life of dignity,"
works with about 22 community-based organisations which reach out
to poor and excluded communities in Zimbabwe, especially women,
children and youth.
