ActionAid International Zimbabwe (AAI Zimbabwe) scored a first to win the number one prize under all voluntary service organisations which exhibited at the Harare Agricultural Show held from 17-25 August 2012.

AAI Zimbabwe received a Rothmans Floating Trophy for the Best Voluntary Services Display during the official opening of the Harare Agricultural Show on Friday 24 August 2012. AAI Zimbabwe Exhibited in the Rajiv Gandi Hall, which saw over 40 voluntary service organisations participating in the same hall. This year's 102nd Edition of the Harare Agricultural Show ran under the theme "Innovative, Inspirational and Informative". The Harare Agricultural Show is one of Zimbabwe's biggest showcases which attracts local, regional and international exhibitors. Various sectors including, the non-governmental, private, parastatals and government players exhibit in the showcase.

In addition to receiving a floating trophy, the First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe among hundreds others visited the AAI show stand whose main attraction was the presence of small scale women farmers who had come to showcase their various farming products, which include maize grain, sugar beans, soya beans, cowpeas, groundnuts, sorghum, cotton and eggs. The participation of the women farmers in the exhibition was facilitated by AAI Zimbabwe partner in the Food Rights and Trade Justice sector, Lower Guruve Development Association (LGDA) which also participated in showcasing its activities. LGDA supports over 6000 women farmers in Guruve and Mbire districts in Mashonaland Central Province in form of input provision and training on production and marketing of the produce. It also offers training on project management, advocacy and lobby, governance and economic literacy.

Commenting on the award, AAI Zimbabwe Country Director, Ronnie Murungu said: "AAI Zimbabwe works with various women groups and small-scale women farmers in its poverty reduction and empowerment programmes. Winning the show award is an indication of the impact of the AAI Zimbabwe work with these groups."

AAI Zimbabwe, whose vision is "A Zimbabwe without poverty and injustice in which every person enjoys their right to a life of dignity," works with about 22 community-based organisations which reach out to poor and excluded communities in Zimbabwe, especially women, children and youth.
