Safeguarding peace
The
Church and Civil Society Forum (CCSF)
May 04, 2012
The Church and
Civil Society Forum (CCSF) applauds the initiatives taken by both
the President of Zimbabwe and the Prime Minister in standing up
for peace and castigating the perpetration of violence. Our leaders
have set a commendable example, which comes at a critical time when
the country should be united and working towards
National Healing and Reconciliation.
Peace is the
key ingredient for national development and therefore, it takes
all of us to promote it. To achieve sustainable peace in Zimbabwe
it is critical that the following further steps, which require political
will and involvement of all Zimbabweans, be implemented:
- That the
preservation of sustainable peace in Zimbabwe be enshrined in
a national values framework that must be developed, communicated
and preserved;
- The new
Constitution must be the guideline in preserving and instituting
sustainable peace in Zimbabwe;
- That peace-building
and mediation trainings be undertaken for various arms of government;
the police,
the army, parliamentarians, ministers, local government officials,
chiefs, teachers, civil servants
- That there
is need for sectoral reforms in the security, judiciary, media
and all government and national institutions so that they are
able to discharge their responsibilities in an impartial and independent
manner.
