Crisis Coalition elects new leadership
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition

Mr. Jonah Gokova,
the Director of The Ecumenical Support Services (ESS) was, on Friday
1 October 2010 re-elected as the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition Chairperson
at the 9th annual General Meeting held at Pandhari Lodge, Harare.
Mr. Gokova is deputized by Bulawayo
Agenda Director, Ms. Anastacia Moyo whilst the Spokesperson
is Mr. Phillip Pasirayi, Director of the Centre
for Community Development in Zimbabwe.
Speaking after
his re-election, Mr Gokova said that national elections in 2011
are slowly becoming a reality presenting the need for civil society
organizations to develop strategies which enhance chances of the
free and fair election. He further noted that The Coalition's
key focus areas over the next year will be; 1. The constitution
making process where civil society seeks to 'reap more out
of the process', 2. Upcoming elections and 3. Enhancing possibilities
of Zimbabwe becoming a democratic developmental state.
The Chairperson
further reiterated the reflections of the founding Coordinator and
former Chairperson of The Coalition, Mr. Brian Kagoro who said that
The Coalition should;
- Be an example
of the values, ethics and integrity that it demands from the state
- Fight a broader
intellectual struggle of what defines the nation, so that those
who have ideas can have power and those with power have ideas
- Reflect
an intellectual rigor and flavour while connecting that to the
reality of bread and butter issues of the ordinary people
- Have a national
sovereign position that can be defended against both the rapacious
state tyranny and the foreign interest.

Human Rights Committee: Zimbabwe
Human Rights Association (ZimRights)
Youth Committee: Youth Alliance for Democracy (YAD)
