NCA
Spokesperson finally acquitted
National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)
March
06, 2009
The National Constitutional
Assembly Spokesperson and Youth Forum Board Chair Madock Chivasa
has been acquitted today for undermining police authority by a Masvingo
magistrate.
His acquittal comes after
two long years of trial.
Chivasa who was charged
in September 2007 for undermining police authority walked out of
the court a free man after the magistrate dismissed the evidence
submitted as the police could not tell whether it was Chivasa or
someone else who said the words which were bringing about the charge.
The magistrate said that
it was no longer necessary to continue charging Chivasa. Police
had argued that they could not tell whether it was Chivasa or not
who insulted them as the incident took place during the night.
The NCA severely condemns
the treatment its spokesperson has received from state apparatus.
