    5 leaders in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
    The Save Zimbabwe Campaign leaders and pro-democracy activists who were arrested on Sunday sustained severe injuries after being brutally assaulted by state agents, the military and police. They were released at just after midnight today and put under the custody of their lawyers pending a court appearance.

    According to one detainee, police said they were given instructions to dump the bodies of anyone who was killed during torture episodes . MDC president, Morgan Tsvangirai had to be resuscitated, mouth-to-mouth. He is recuperating in the Intensive Care Unit of Avenues Clinic. Also in the ICU are, Sekai Holland, Elton Mangoma, Gwavava and Lovemore Madhuku. Grace Kwinjeh is in a disturbing state with a broken ear and fingers and a swollen body.

    The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour has deplored the brutal attack and detention of the opposition party leaders and supporters. She further said that the intimidation of a peaceful assembly is totally unacceptable. Immediate investigations by Zimbabwean authorities was called for by the High Commissioner.

    Gweru Executive Mayor arrested
    Sesel Zvidzai, the Gweru mayor who was elected on a Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) ticket was arrested yesterday for embarking on a demonstration in solidarity with arrested detainees and the Save Zimbabwe Campaign. The mayor, was arrested together with 10 other MDC supporters.

    10 arrested in Kwekwe
    Police in Kwekwe have arrested 10 activists who were demonstrating against the atrocious beatings of Save Zimbabwe Campaign activists and supporters.
