MORGAN Tsvangirai, the
President of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has been assaulted
in police custody at Machipisa Police Station where he is currently
being detained.
Lawyers representing
the detainees also said that Harrison Nkomo a lawyer with the Zimbabwe
Lawyers for Human Rights was also assaulted after he visited the
police station to enquire about the torture against the opposition
leader.
The police are also refusing
legal representation to more than 100 opposition and civil society
activists who have been arrested by the police.
It is also reported that
the police are firing water and teargas canisters against Highfields
suburb in Harare.
Meanwhile, information
reaching our information desk is that, an MDC activist Gift Tandire
was shot dead at Mhizha Primary School in Highfields.
The clampdown against
the pro-democracy activists follows a police ban against demonstration
and political gatherings in Zimbabwe
