Resolutions from civil society meeting in Rusape
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition

On Tuesday 20
February 2007, civil society convened in Rusape at a meeting
organized by Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition. The meeting discussed
the state of the nation and the possible strategies to end the current
crisis in Zimbabwe. Organizations represented were National Constitutional
Assembly (NCA), Media Monitoring Project of Zimbabwe (MMPZ), Public
Information Rights Forum (PIRF), Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe
(PTUZ) and Community Working Group on Health (CWGH) among others.
The following
resolutions were made:
- That
a new people driven, democratic constitution be put in place to
resolve the crisis of legitimacy and governance in Zimbabwe
- That
the social contract proposed by Reserve Bank Governor, Gideon
Gono should be rejected unless government shows total commitment
to include all stakeholders such as civil society, the church,
labour, students and business in the resolution of the national
crisis.
- That
all citizens should rise against the postponement of the 2008
presidential elections
- That
the administration of the Global fund and Aids levy be made transparent
and also enhance people’s access to Anti retrovirals
- That
there should be continued solidarity with teachers who have vowed
to continue with the strikes for a salary increment and
better working conditions
- There should
be unity of purpose among civil society organizations
