Condemnation
of violence against WOZA on Human Rights Defenders Day
Zimbabwean
Activists in Exile Peace and Justice Network
November
29, 2006
The Zimbabwean
Activists in Exile Peace and Justice Network which is based in the
United States of America condemns the violence unleashed on the WOZA
and MOZA members by the Zimbabwe Republic Police on Human Rights Defender’s
Day.
This shameless and dastard act on defenseless women, men and children
on an internationally recognized day not only confirms the lawlessness
which now characterizes the Zimbabwean government but also its arrogance.
Activists in exile applaud the courage being shown by our mothers
and fathers in WOZA and MOZA during these trying tyrannical days in
Zimbabwe.
We will always be there to support them morally and materially from
all corners of the world. We therefore call upon the government to
institute meaningful and fruitful investigations into these acts of
violence by the police with the view of bringing perpetrators to justice.
We also call upon the international community to intervene and protect
human rights defenders in Zimbabwe. It is the duty of all nations
in the United Nations to protect defenseless women and children from
this vile regime which is showing a total disregard of international
laws.
The Zimbabwean government has a duty to protect its own citizens and
to guarantee them the freedom to assemble and to express themselves
in accordance with the country’s constitution.
