NCA to protest against over the worsening human rights abuses
National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)
September 19, 2006

The NCA will this week stage peaceful demonstrations in Kadoma, Mutare, Gweru, Masvingo, Bulawayo and Harare to push the government to accept that there is need for a people-driven and democratic constitution that will extricate the country from the deepening political and socio-economic crisis.

We have noted with concern the deteriorating crisis and human rights abuses by the state using the colonial laws such a POSA and AIPPA .The dreadful assault and attempted murder on ZCTU leadership last week has raised emotions in the entire NCA membership resulting in it calling for a demonstration soon to show our disapproval of what the police did to the ZCTU.

NCA activists will be distributing fliers showing exact venues and times of the actions.

The demonstrations will be peaceful and not a threat to the public order and security hence, we will not notify the police.

More demonstrations will follow from other democratic forces in the country.

We want a democratic and people-driven constitution NOW.
