Zambezi News press release
Magamba
Cultural Activist Network
May 02, 2012
Magamba
is set to debut the first full-length show of the hit comedy Zambezi
News at HIFA this Friday. The shows on Friday and Saturday have
both sold out.
Zambezi News is the breakthrough
new comedy series that has had audiences in Zimbabwe and abroad
in stitches since its launch in late 2011. Irreverent, sarcastic
and downright hilarious this is the news as never seen before. Created
by two of the country's pioneering creative minds, Comrade
Fatso and Outspoken, Zambezi News will give the audience a new experience
in theatre, comedy and multi-media presentations.
Zambezi News parodies
the relentless propaganda and astounding journalistic ineptitude
on state TV through its two comical news presenters. The presenters
humorously delve into a plethora of issues such as democracy, elections,
race, land reform, corruption, sexism, gender issues, arts and sport
- generally all aspects of life in Zimbabwe including all
its contradictions and ironies. It will be the premiere of their
full length live show with the two comical news presenters Mandape
Mandape (Outspoken) and Jerome Weathers (Comrade Fatso) presenting
live in studio while also cutting away to news reports on the big
screen. The show will feature the talents of the great actor and
comedian Michael Kudakwashe and the cheeky accent impersonator,
Fungai Machirori.
The show was recently
performed in Johannesburg. The week after HIFA will see the shooting
of the pilot season that will then be distributed across the country.
