Zimbabwe has over the
years become rich with talented visual artists who have managed
to tell stories and emotions through their pieces, some of which
have taken turns to grace gallery walls in various exhibitions locally
and internationally. Among the popular local galleries are Gallery
Delta and the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.
Gallery Delta is currently
exhibiting works that include graphics, paintings and sculptures
by over 26 local artists who include Virginia Chihota, Masimba Hwati,
Rashid Jogee and Misheck Masamvu.
"This exhibition
is titled Art Zimbabwe Today and so far it has been running very
well and I think it is probably because it offers a variety of works,"
said Gallery Delta assistant director, Gina Maxim.
The National Gallery
of Zimbabwe in partnership with Unesco and Hifa will until mid-June
be presenting an exhibition titled Beyond Borders: Re-questioning
Development and Challenges in Contemporary Art Practise in East
and Southern Africa.
Gallery Communications
Officer, Rutendo Mutadzapasi said the exhibition was curated by
Raphael Chikukwa who sought to examine African borders in post-colonial
Africa which have remained questionable with many African leaders
talking about African Renaissance, Ubuntu and African Unity.
"The exhibition
has works from artists such as Uhuru Kgope, Charles Bhebhe, Batsirai
Muswe, Malangatana and Crycio Jorge," she said.
