Sculpting is a family business for Peddy and her husband. In 1994 he started to teach her the craft as well as the business-side of it. Today, both are skilled artisans who sell their sculptures at different craft markets in Harare. Peddy enjoys being part of a husband-and-wife team because she has someone to share work ideas and challenges with. Together, they are also able to pursue a common vision for their business and their family.

Maria suggests that she does not have any creative abilities. She says she has tried to learn a craft but without much success. Her brother, on the other hand, is multitalented and knows how to sculpt in stone and paper mache, dye batiks and paint in acrylics. Maria sells his products at the craft market in Newlands and she acknowledges that this is where her skills lie. Having started vending in 2000 she has now developed into an expert salesperson. The partnership with her brother works well as they complement each other. Through their business partnership Maria has been able to fend for herself and her child whom she is raising as a single parent.

Emmanuel is a qualified welder who used to freelance in the industrial areas of Harare before he turned his attention to sculpting. In addition to being able to express his hidden creativity, Emmanuel also found that he earned a better living as a sculptor. The business acumen he gained in his previous work allowed him to quickly develop relationships with reliable suppliers, to establish sound financial systems and to develop a stable client base. There is always room for improvement and Emmanuel believes that with access to adequate financing he can achieve much more. He looks forward to the day when the prevailing conditions in the country improve so that he can take his craft business to greater heights.
