October 18, 2010
Alexio Kawara and his Shades of Black team have
taken a challenge to capture the live footage of his interaction
with and reaction of his fans in a live DVD billed for 7 Arts Theatre
on Friday 29 October 2010 at 7pm after coming to the realization
that many of his past hit songs are not available on the market
any longer. "The live DVD recording is an innovative means
of capturing on DVD and audio, my best songs, a few new ones as
well as the various highly successful collaborations I have had
with the likes of Andy Brown, Teererai Mugwadi and Clive ‘Mono'
Mukundu to name just a few. It's a challenge I have taken
to record live responses of our fans to our music which means we
have to pull up our stockings so that we can live to their and our
expectations", says the young and versatile musician of the
Shaina fame.
The live show which is being managed by Rooftop
Promotions will be staged on Friday the 29th of October at 7 Arts
and tickets will sell for $10 and will be available at 7 Arts, Liquid
Lounge, Book Café and Music Box. As a sign of his regional
growth and timely warm up ahead of this epic show, Alexio played
at Blantyre Arts Festival from 1 - 3 October and has since
stopped shows to polish his act ahead of the show with his versatile
Shades of Black who include: Isa Chida, Fatima Katiji, Nelly Ndomu
Masendeke, Cornelius Mponda, Roy Zuka, Eddington Matambira and Tawanda
Ndoro with Don Gwese as the band manager.
Alexio Kawara is one of the most promising young
Zimbabwean musicians in terms of staying power in Zimbabwe's
music industry today. With an amazing ability for producing hit
song after hit song and that rare combination of composer, singer
and performer all rolled into one, this young man has held the nation's
attention for some time now and is set to keep Zimbabwe riveted-
setting the bar high for Zimbabwean music. Alexio has four (4) albums
to his name to date and is currently rocking the airwaves with the
hit song "Shaina"
The young man joined the fast lane when he came
together with friends to form a group known as Guess. Delani Makhalima,
an urban music enthusiast and one of the patriarchs of modern music
beats in Zimbabwe, took interest in them and life was never the
same for them. Alexio's first smash hit Amai, done with Guess,
was to be just the first of many. Amai made it to third best song
of the year in 2000 at a time when only international songs made
it big on the local scene.
In 2003 Alexio
released his first album Usazondisiya which had the hit songs Kumba
kwenyu and the epic song Ndinomhanya, which became an anthem on
the airwaves and so was most of his songs which include Chibvugubvugu,
Musikana Akanaka, Pfimbi Yangu and Tinodanana (We are in love) which
he did with Urban Music Zimbabwean diva Tererai Mugwadi -
to name a few. His latest offering ‘Kana', features
renowned artists like Andy Brown, Clive Mono Mkundu, Philip Svosve
of the late James Chimombe's Ocean City Band and Newman Chipeni.
The album rocked Zimbabwe yet again with Karwiyo Aka, Nyaya Yerudo
and his undisputed biggest hit of them all- Shaina.
Update: Alexio Kawara
DVD Recording Postponed to 13 November 2010
October 29, 2010
The DVD recording of Alexio Kawara which was scheduled
for this Friday 29th October 2010 has been postponed to 13 November
owing to the late coming of critical funds.
Some sponsors we were talking to who had given a
green light kept vacillating but now we are concluding a deal with
an interested sponsor which effectively means we cannot implement
that deal in time for Friday's show since they are branding
and promotional implications at play. Hence the scheduled two week
postponement. Fans who had already purchased tickets can either
keep their tickets or get their refunds if they will not be available
for the show on the new date. We sincerely regret any inconveniences
caused and thank all those who had purchased tickets or were planning
to be at the show.
The show plan
remains the same: Alexio Kawara and his Shades of Black team are
still hosting a live DVD recording show at 7 Arts Theatre on Saturday
13 November 2010 at 7pm. The live DVD recording show will capture
on DVD and audio some of Alexio's best songs, some new songs as
well as the various highly successful collaborations done with the
likes of Andy Brown, Teererai Mugwadi and Clive ‘Mono'
Mukundu to name just a few.
Tickets for the live show will be available for
$10 at 7 Arts, Theatre in the Park, Liquid Lounge, Book Café,
Wimpy First Street and Music Box.
