Describe yourself in five words?
Pass! Too difficult.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Listen more than you talk.

What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever done?
Once a group of us decided to stage an entire play in ten days. It was madness.

What is your most treasured possession?
Probably at the moment my passport, if only because the 12 hours I spent queuing to renew it are still painfully fresh in my memory.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Being directionless.

Do you have any strange hobbies?
Sadly, no. Maybe I should try and acquire some.

What do you dislike most about your appearance?
I don't know how it is, but I am STILL spotty, despite no longer being an adolescent.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Plane tickets, by far.

What have you got in your fridge?
Vegetables, mostly. Milk, cheese. Half an apple pie. Yum yum.

What is your greatest fear?
Death. I'm not one of those who can view it philosophically.

What have you got in your pockets right now?
Nothing.

What is your favourite journey?
Anytime I'm going somewhere new.

Who are your heroes in real life?
He's dead, but at the minute I'm sort of in awe of the novelist Anthony Trollope. He wrote for 3 hours every morning before breakfast and then went off to his full time job. He was a massive figure in the civil service as well as an acclaimed novelist, and he worked every hour of the day. It's incredible. He said "My entire career is based on the discipline of early hours". God. I don't know how he did it.

When and where were you happiest?
I think I might be happiest right now.

What's your biggest vice?
I'm not very neat.

What were you like at school?
Total swot.

What are you doing next?
I am about to go on tour around the US and UK with Shakespeare's Globe's production of 'The Merry Wives of Windsor.'
